An open lecture by Sigma Software for IT students of KNEU on the topic “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Software Development”24 October 2025р.On October 21, 2025, at 11:30 AM, an open lecture titled "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Software Development" was held at Kyiv National Economic University, conducted by Volodymyr Yantsov — a representative of Sigma Software, a leader in the IT outsourcing services industry.
The lecture was the result of the collaboration between the Department of Computer Science of the university and Sigma Software, which has been actively cooperating with educational institutions for several years to exchange knowledge and experience in the IT field. The event took place in the university's lecture hall, where students from the 2nd to 4th years of the "Computer Science" educational program, as well as graduate students from the "Artificial Intelligence Systems" and "Information Control Systems and Technologies" programs, gathered.
The event was attended by: the head of the Department of Computer Science, Prof. Bohdan Tishkov; deputy heads of the Department of Computer Science — Yurii Lozovyk and Yaroslav Vozniuk; guarantors of the educational programs — "Artificial Intelligence Systems" - Lyudmyla Vasylieva and "Information Control Systems and Technologies" - Stanislav Ustenko; lecturers of the Department of Computer Science and representatives of other structural units of the Institute of Information Technologies in Economics. During the lecture, Volodymyr Yantsov, a representative of Sigma Software, spoke about the activities of the company, which is one of the leaders in the IT outsourcing services industry. Sigma Software has over 23 years of experience in the global market, brings together more than 2,000 specialists in 41 offices across 14 countries, and has been listed among the TOP-100 outsourcing companies in the world for eight consecutive years. The company is a certified partner of such technological giants as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google.
Volodymyr Yantsov went into detail about the areas of activity of Sigma Software Group, noting that the company implements high-tech projects in the fields of business automation, digital product engineering, cloud technologies, and digital transformation. Sigma Software is a key technological partner for companies on the Fortune 500 list and numerous technology startups. Special attention was given to the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) — technologies that are currently shaping a new era of IT development. According to him, AI is already actively used to accelerate the development of new drugs, optimize business processes, automate production and management decisions, and improve the efficiency of strategic decision-making.
During the lecture, the advantages and potential risks of using AI in software development were discussed. Volodymyr Yantsov emphasized that these technologies are increasingly used at all stages of development — from writing and testing code to automating testing and ensuring cybersecurity. He also presented a number of popular tools actively used in the field of artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, DALL·E, Apollo, Qualifier, Drift, Leena AI, Fetcher AI, Fireflies, and Duet AI for Google Workspace.
The speaker also highlighted the rapid growth of the influence of new systems, such as Microsoft Copilot, Apple Intelligence, Gemini from Google, Bing Create, Grammarly, Midjourney, Respeecher, and Reface, which define the modern trend of AI development. He also provided examples of practical applications of these technologies at Sigma Software, where AI-powered chatbots already help engineers automate the search for necessary tools, create technical documentation, and conduct internal data analytics, saving thousands of work hours every year.
Volodymyr Yantsov focused not only on technical aspects but also on social challenges related to the widespread implementation of AI. He noted that, on one hand, artificial intelligence frees people from routine work, allowing them to dedicate more time to creative tasks, but on the other hand, it creates new risks: a decrease in critical thinking, loss of independent analysis skills, and data security threats.
It was noted that the number of devices and services with built-in AI systems is increasing worldwide, which is influencing the job market: the demand for developers is decreasing, while the need for specialists with an understanding of business processes, analytics, UX design, and cybersecurity, who can work with AI tools, is growing. At the same time, blue-collar jobs are not disappearing — they are transforming, receiving support from digital tools. Volodymyr Yantsov emphasized that the main value remains the person, as they determine how AI will be applied — as an assistant in performing traditional tasks or as a threat that may lead to a loss of independent thinking. He stressed the importance of developing critical thinking and ethical responsibility among future IT specialists. At the end of his speech, the representative of Sigma Software invited students to join internship, development, and training programs within Sigma Software Academy. He noted that the company is open to talented young specialists and provides opportunities not only for employment but also for professional growth, participation in startups, and international projects. Volodymyr Yantsov’s speech was very informative and useful for students. The lecture helped to understand how artificial intelligence and machine learning are changing the software development industry, as well as how these technologies are used to optimize and improve business processes. The specialist also advised students to actively study the latest technologies, as well as to think critically and develop their skills in working with AI tools. After the lecture, students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various aspects of the company’s work and the profession of a programmer in the context of rapid automation and the development of AI. We are grateful to Sigma Software for providing students with the opportunity to see what the real business environment looks like, and for the invitation to participate in internships and other programs that contribute to the development of young talents. The meeting was productive and inspiring. Students received not only theoretical knowledge but also an understanding of how to apply this knowledge in the real world, and what opportunities are opening up for them in the IT industry. This event also strengthened the university’s collaboration with the industry, which will allow students to gain valuable experience and practical skills needed to work in modern IT companies.
Together with Sigma Software, we are confident that we can continue to strengthen the cooperation between science and business, opening up new horizons for students and helping them prepare for the challenges of the future in the IT field. |
